Oxford University Press acquires legal publisher.

Oxford University Press (OUP; Cary, NC/ Oxford, Eng.) has acquired Blackstone Press, the publisher of professional, student and vocational books for the legal market, from BPP plc. (London). No terms were given.

Blackstone Press was founded in 1988 and has a backlist of 400 books, including such titles as "Blackstone's Criminal Practice" and "Blackstone's Civil Practice," as well as a range of titles for law students. In 2000, the company published 30 new titles and had about [pounds sterling]5 million in revenues with net income of [pounds sterling]758,000.

OUP ceo Henry Reece said the purchase of Blackstone "makes us the UK's leading educational publisher for law students (and) is a major step foward in our ambitions to become a leading publisher of high quality materials for the legal profession."
