Owen wins it for United; PREMIER LEAGUE.

MICHAEL OWEN came off the bench to head homeNewcastle United's 71st-minute winner which finally broke Bolton's stubborn resistance.

Owen's timing could hardly have been better when, having been included among the substitutes following his recovery from mumps and a calf injury, he was introduced as a 52nd-minute replacement for Obafemi Martins.

He had already headed straight at Jussi Jaaskelainen when he anticipated perfectly a cross from fellow newcomer Geremi to glance a second effort past the keeper.

Owen said: "Geremi is a fantastic crosser of the ball. As soon as he gets the ball, I come alive.

"I try to get half a yard and spring, and I did."
