Ovid Reaches Milestone with One Millionth Full Text Link.

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--August 5, 1998--Ovid Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ NM: OVID) announced today that it has created its one millionth link within Ovid Full Text, highlighting the superior search functionality for which Ovid Full Text has come to be known.

Ovid first implemented links between its bibliographic and full text databases in 1995 with the release of the Core Biomedical Collection, a full text database consisting of 15 leading biomedical journals. Since then more than 150 journals have been added to Ovid's catalogue of full text with many thousands of links available among full text articles and the MEDLINE, CINAHL and PsycINFO databases. Links to Current Contents, EMBASE and Biosis, as well as Ovid's forthcoming Evidence Based Medicine Reviews, will be available shortly.

"This is a very exciting time for Ovid and for our users," said Deborah Hull, chief operating officer at Ovid. "We chose to adopt the SGML format for electronic full text several years ago, just as the Web's linking environment was becoming prominent, as a format which would give Ovid users much more functionality and the ability to link from references. Users confirm that this approach is the way they do research. Extensive hyperlinking is now an Ovid hallmark and has proved to be one of our most popular full text search capabilities."

Unlike products that merely link from a bibliographic citation to full text, Ovid implements links both to and from full text, thus supporting the way research is actually conducted. Once an article of interest is located, a researcher will peruse that article's references for other relevant documents. By creating links from references back to the abstracted bibliographic citation, Ovid completes the research cycle for the user.
