Over N.dollars 200 000 stolen from HP Campus.

Thieves allegedly broke into an office at the Hifikepunye Pohamba Campus of the University of Namibia (Unam) at Ongwediva in the Oshana Region and stole N.dollars 224 580 around 07h30 on Saturday.

Warrant Officer Frieda Shikole-Ashiyana in a statement issued here on Monday said yet unknown suspects gained entry to the office by breaking the window and while inside the building they cut the safe where they stole the money.

According to Shikole-Ashiyana, a case of housebreaking has been registered with the Namibian Police Force (NamPol) at Ongwediva on the same day.

'Suspects are not known at this stage and no arrest has been made,' she stated. The Warrant Officer has also reported of a pedestrian, identified as 51-year-old Lukas Amon, died on the spot after a driver of an oncoming Toyota minibus running him over while crossing the road.

The deceased was a resident of the Onawa location in Oshakati. Shikole-Ashiyana indicated that the accident occurred near Tafel Bar on the Oshakati-Ongwediva main road around 20h20 on Sunday.

The next of kin are informed about Amon's death, while a culpable homicide case has been registered in connection with this accident also at the NamPol station in Ongwediva.
