Outdoor shower is handy to spa.

Outdoor shower is handy to spa Cold and tingling or hot and sudsy, a shower to accompany a dip in the spa is just steps away in this Seattle garden. John Quimby designed a shelter to give the outdoor shower some privacy and wind protection and to provide a handsome focal point in this garden rich with architectural and horticultural references to Japan.

The plumbing is an extension of the house's system. Water from the hand-held shower head drains through a bamboo grille over a supporting metal grille and into a catch basin connecting to the sewer. Beyond the stall, a small paneled area with hooks provides space for changing.

At one corner is a tall box-like lighting fixture; cutouts fitted with bamboo and translucent fibergalss panels provide subtle night light for the deck and shower.

A student of Japanese architecture, Quimby designed the deck and shower structure to include finials and other bits of Oriental art he has collected.
