Out with the old ..

Yes, Tara K. Dix, it is time for a new agenda ("Vatican II, Schmatican II," December), but please include still-needed items from Vatican II that more than 2,000 good bishops put into 16 documents. Your agenda should include implementation plans that powerful forces in the church cannot sabotage or that the laity are willing to institute themselves, like ignoring the church's ban on artificial contraception.

Though many Catholics are willing to pray, pay, and obey, lay synods exist and are spreading across the country. Perhaps using these is the best way for the laity and progressive religious to put forth an agenda for the church of the here and now and the immediate future.
