Our world-class medics deserve such credit.

FOOTBALL was put into perspective this week following events at White Hart Lane involving Fabrice Muamba. You have to give a lot of credit to the physios and medics in the game these days.

We don't see this very often, but sadly it can happen.

And it has been good to see everybody pull together.

I pray Fabrice pulls though.

There has been so much goodwill that has come his way. The medical teams are as good as any in the world now.

Let me take you back to when I was at Wigan in the old Fourth Division in 1981.

Our physio was an ex-player and we had one ultrasound machine.

Don't forget, physios then were just ex-players with no medical background.

I turned up to the physio room with a dead leg, the physio had a Woodbine in his mouth and was reading Sporting Life.

He slapped some gel on my bad leg then picked up the ultrasound wand and started using it on my good leg while reading the paper.

My leg was on fire! It has moved on so much, and you have to give the medics so much credit these days.

They were brilliant at White Hart Lane and showed it on Saturday night in the Spurs v Bolton game.

Let's pray that Fabrice pulls through because we know he couldn't have been in better hands.
