Our say.

THE granting of planning consent for 30 new homes is a timely boost for the Grove Hill estate in Middlesbrough. Pockmarked by empty sites where homes once stood and with boarded up houses all around, the area badly needed a boost.

This new stage in its regeneration will see the construction of affordable homes for sale and rent. It's a development that should lead to a growth in confidence throughout a community that had reason to wonder what kind of a future it faced.

The famed spirit that bound residents together has been sorely tested in recent years.

But hopefully, these new homes will mark the start of Grove Hill's resurgence.

THE Schietekat family from Ingleby Barwick have much to be grateful for this Christmas.

Mum Christine and Dad Jaco will be celebrating with twins Ava and Bella, who were born in April, and seven-year-old Millie.

After a difficult year, this particular season of goodwill will carry an air of extra specialness about it for the family.

Countless others will feel the same though, as families and friends gather, and remind themselves why they matter so much to each other. Best wishes to you all. May this Christmas be the best you have ever enjoyed.
