Our pick of the Irish highlights.

March 18-20: There's still time to head to the village of Howth for the Dublin Bay Prawn Festival. It has cooking demonstrations, funfairs and shellfish in all forms. June 5: The world's second biggest cycle race Giro d'Italia Gran Fondo starts in Belfast and heads over the Mourne mountains before going back to Belfast. Test out the route before (it's 173km long) or cheer from the sidelines. June 24-26: The Sea Sessions, held in Donegal, is a festival which combines music and surfing. This year, Primal Scream, right, and Tinie Tempah headline, with Bad Manners in support. There's also barefoot football and rugby on the beach and BMX bikes. September 2 - October 9: The village of Lisdoonvarna in County Clare holds what is billed as the world's largest matchmaking event. Singles come in droves to hook up at dances, overseen by matchmaker Willie Daly. Ridiculous but fun. September 22-25: More shellfish is on the menu at the Galway Oyster Festival with shucking contests, music and a great deal of Guinness or Murphy's. October 28-31: Cork works up a thirst with its annual jazz festival. The line-up hasn't been announced yet but it's always world-class.
