Elizabeth is curator and William director of the Condon Collection at the Museum of Natural and Cultural History at the University of Oregon in Eugene. They update again their reference to the state's geology, keeping up with the revolutionary models and theories that emerged since the 2000 edition. Most important, perhaps, has been the overall shift in thinking away from general geology and economics and towards tectonics, with much of the volcanic activity east of the Cascade Mountains now being attributed to hot spots or mantle plumes. They have also added some historical photographs and biographical sketches of early geologists in the state. Their arrangement is by region, for example the Blue Mountains, the Owyhee Plateau, high laval plains, the Willamette Valley, and the Coast range and continental margin.
