Sunday, Beall Hall

Pianist Victor Steinhardt is the featured solo artist with the Oregon Wind Ensemble.

The program, conducted by Robert Ponto, includes A Fugal Overture by Gustav Holst; `Irish Tune From County Derry' by Percy Grainger; `Entry March of the Boyars' by Johan Halvorsen; March, Op. 99 by Sergey Prokofiev; Fanfare for the Vienna Philharmonic by Richard Strauss; `Children's March' by Edwin Franko Goldman; `Bullets and Bayonets' by John Philip Sousa; `Sanctuary' by Frank Ticheli; `Fiesta del Pacifico' by Roger Nixon; and `Departure Point' by Philip Rothman.

Steinhardt has been a featured artist at the Oregon Bach Festival, Chamber Music Northwest, the San Luis Obispo Mozart Festival in California and Bargemusic in New York.

The concert is at 3 p.m. in Beall Hall. Tickets are $7, $5 for students and senior citizens, at the door.

The Jazz Cafe

Friday, Room 178, music school

The School of Music's Jazz Cafe returns with another evening of jazz combos in a cabaret setting.

Four student groups will perform music by Cole Porter, Jerome Kern, Miles Davis, Dave Brubeck and Wayne Shorter, as well as some original student compositions.

The show begins at 8 p.m. in Room 178. Tickets are $7, $5 for students and senior citizens, at the door. Light refreshments will be sold.

Kum Dance Company

Friday, Dougherty Dance Theatre

The Kum Dance Company, a student group from Hangyang University in Korea, will perform a free concert of traditional Korean Dances at 8 p.m. at the Dougherty Dance Theatre in the Gerlinger Annex, 1484 University St.

The house opens at 7:30 p.m. Admission is free. This performance is part of a six-day visit to the UO campus that also will include classes and demonstrations for students.

Oregon Brass Quintet

Tuesday, Beall Hall

The Oregon Brass Quintet will perform music by J.S. Bach and others.

Members of the quintet - all on the UO music faculty - are Brian McWhorter and George Recker, trumpets; Lydia Van Dreel, horn; Jeffrey Williams, trombone; and Michael Grose, tuba.

The program includes `Contrapunctus I, III, IV and IX' by Bach; `Quintet' by Malcolm Arnold; `Instrumental Rounds in Snaketime' by Moondog; and `Fanfare' by David Amram.

The concert is at 8 p.m. in Beall Hall. Tickets are $10, $8 for students and senior citizens, at the door.

UO Symphonic Band

Wednesday, Beall Hall

The UO Symphonic Band's winter concert will feature music by Ralph Vaughan Williams and others.

Directed by Timothy Paul, the program includes Williams' `Flourish for Wind Band' and `English Folk Song Suite' as well as `The Padstow Lifeboat' by Malcolm Arnold, `Passacaglia (Homage to B-A-C-H)' by Ron Nelson and other selections.

The concert is at 8 p.m. in Beall Hall. Tickets are $7, $5 for students and senior citizens, at the door.
