Ordaining women; YOUR LETTERS TO THE NATIONAL NEWSPAPER OFWALES.

SIR - The ordination of women does not present a problem for the churches of the Reformation ("Catholic Church needs a rethink", Carolyn Hitt, July 19).

For the Catholic and Orthodox churches, it involves the validity of the Eucharistic celebration and of the sacrament of ordination. For churches with a different theology of sacraments, these questions do not arise. Ordination is not about authority or influence in the Church.

Rome was not commenting on the debate within the Anglican or any other communion. Nor was it equating the ordination of women with crimes of paedophilia. The article was gross misrepresentation. RT REV DANIEL J MULLINS Bishop Emeritus of Menevia
