Optoma leads Taiwan's projector market in Q2, 2009.
Telly Kuo, Optoma's general manager for Asia, noted that the government's economic stimulus programs are expected to boost the overall domestic market demand for projectors to around 100,000 units this year, despite the gloomy climate in the retail market seen early this year.
Demand from governments and schools is significantly strong, Kuo said, as his brand has won tenders from governments and schools for about 10,000 projectors over the past nine months of the year, double the corresponding figure posted a year earlier, and commanding a 35% share of the segment.
As demand in the segment has simmered into the fourth quarter of the year, the brand's annual shipment in Taiwan is estimated to hit 30,000 units this year, with 13,000-14,000 units to be sold to governments and schools, according to institutional investors.
