Opto 22, SMC, and PCS Launch Partnership for Network Server ``Smart Cabinet'' Systems; Combined Product Integrates Server Cabinets, Security, Environmental Conditions and Software.

TEMECULA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 26, 2001

Opto 22, together with Systems Manufacturing Corp. (SMC) and Professional Consulting Services (PCS), jointly announced a partnership Monday to offer the first integrated product line for proactive monitoring of network server security and environmental conditions.

The Smart Cabinet I system from SMC provides unprecedented server management capabilities. The server cabinet system not only provides access control, but also gathers and integrates critical data on security status and environmental conditions to give a comprehensive overview of server room operations. Convenient Web-based access allows remote management of server security and conditions. With Smart Cabinet I, the complete network picture can now be integrated with existing enterprise management systems.

Smart Cabinet I allows network analysts to define security protocol, track personnel access to the server remotely, and take immediate action if a security violation occurs. This capability is ideal for managers of co-location computing resources with multiple clients. Network service providers are now able to offer clients real-time access to all operating conditions that can impact their server operations.

Incorporating proven asset management systems from Opto 22 and the enterprise management knowledge of PCS, Smart Cabinet I is based on an open architecture that can be customized to meet specific application needs. SMC is the first company to bring information technology (IT) intelligence into the components that actually house the network, to extend network monitoring capabilities beyond the traditional printers, routers, and computers. Smart Cabinet I systems are available for shipment now.

"Now the cabinets housing network components are themselves a network device," said Bob Sheffres, vice president, Opto 22. "For a minimal cost over a traditional server cabinet, this combined offering delivers peace of mind and immediate ROI for customers seeking a secure and trouble-free environment for their IT systems."

"The release of Smart Cabinet I provides high-end co-locators, ISPs, and ASPs with complete control of the main concerns that drive their business," said John Shultz, president, SMC. "Security, environmental conditions, and remote access are all addressed. SMC's approach is to offer complete solutions that address current and future IS/IT needs." Shultz added, "The partnership among Opto 22, SMC, and PCS teams the very best in technology, to provide Smart Cabinet I users the competitive advantages they are looking for."

"The real value of intelligent systems is in bringing the data from a wide range of assets -- IT and non-IT assets alike -- into existing business systems," said Steve Pazol, principal, PCS. "Businesses that can dynamically manage disparate assets with a cohesive network have a definite competitive advantage," he added.
