Optellios Expands Fiber Patrol Product Line.
The Fiber Patrol brand currently features advanced fiber-optic intrusion detection systems targeting perimeter and infrastructure security needs. "We deploy miles and miles of fiber-optic sensor cable as part of our installation. It didn't take long to realize that the same cable can be used to transmit video and data signals from security cameras or any other field equipment," said Jay Patel, CEO of Optellios Inc.
The licensed technology, which Cisco obtained in its acquisition of SyPixx Networks, covers the transmission of non-compressed (non-IP) video and supporting data over fiber. Optellios will now be able to offer a complete line of fiber-optic video and data transmitting and receiving units with a communication range of up to 50 miles. This technology will enable dual use of the Fiber Patrol sensor cable, greatly reducing the cost of infrastructure development for Optellios' clients.
Today, Fiber Patrol intrusion detection products are integrated with various third-party video surveillance systems via Fiber Patrol Remote Alarm Management software, a network-based reconfigurable security administration platform. This complete solution provides the multi-layer protection and verification capabilities that are becoming a standard in today's security-conscious world. Physical integration of intrusion sensing with video and data transmission is the next step in the evolution of one of the most advanced security systems. "The agreement with Cisco will allow us to offer integrated sensing / communication solutions to the security industry from a single source," added Dr. Patel.
