Operation in Karachi brings good results: Ahsan Iqbal.

KARACHI -- Federal Minister for Planning and Development, Ahsan Iqbal here Saturday said the Government has succeeded in improving the law and order situation in the city through on-going targeted operation against terrorists and other outlaws.

Those criminal elements engaged in committing crimes during day time and celebrating over the nights, now find it difficult for them to hide, he said.

Talking to media after presiding over a meeting at the Institution of Engineers Pakistan (IEP), the Minister informed that the Government is making special plans to create job opportunities for the young engineers.

He said that it was essential to generate financial resources and strengthening production base of the country for its property and development.

But, he regretted, certain class of businessmen did not want to see the country to become self-sufficient in production; when we do not need to import anything from outside.

He maintained that for serving the vested interests of a certain class, the national organisations were neglected and destroyed in the past. These included Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) and Pakistan Railways, he said.

He called for joint efforts to beat such hostile elements and make Pakistan economically strong and developed.

Ahsan Iqbal noted it as very positive that the last elected government completed its five year tenure smoothly. More important is, Chief Justice of Pakistan and the Army Chief completed their tenures, he added. This , he said , would promote the culture of tolerance and co-existence in the country.

The Minister informed the media that he had held a detailed meeting today (Saturday) with the Sindh Government functionaries to discuss the Pakistan vision-2025.

He acknowledged the important role of the provinces towards the country's progress and prosperity.

Despite difference of opinion on certain issues , all the political parties are unanimous to make the country economically strong and a developed state , he said.

He said that the Government has initiated various mega projects to address the energy crisis faced by the country.

He sought engineers' cooperation and support to successfully execute these projects.

" Engineers are the asset of this country," he acknowledged.

To a question, the Minister said that the availability of electricity at low rate is the prerequisite for the prosperity of the country.
