Opera star's concert in aid of mental health centre.

OPERA superstar Bryn Terfel is to headline a Christmas concert to raise awareness for a centre which helps people with mental health issues.

The bass baritone will take part in the concert in aid of Bangor's Abbey Road centre at the cathedral on December 20 at 8pm.

Also appearing will be Hogia'r Ddwylan and the Gwynedd and Anglesey Concert band.

The Abbey Road Centre has provided a wide range of services for 30 years.

Centre manager Meinir Evans said: "A lot of people know of the building but few people know about our work.

"We offer a pop-in centre for those with mental health problems and a home to organisations such as Cruse (bereavement care), CAIS Bryn (alcohol and drugs) and Overeaters Anonymous.

"We are delighted Bryn will take part in the concert. The Cathedral is the ideal venue for this concert.

Not only does it have wonderful acoustics but the church itself does much to help the homeless at this time of year."

." ? Tickets cost PS25 from Palas Print, Caernarfon and Bangor
