Opera events in Salt Lake City . . . including an insider's view of Faust

There's a growing interest in opera in Salt Lake City, and October brings several ways to enjoy this dramatic art form.

The Salt Lake Opera Theater presents two short operas, Cavalleria Rusticana and I Pagliacci, at 8 P.M. September 28, 29, and October 1 at Kingsbury Hall. Admission is $5.

The Utah Opera Company presents Gounod's Faust, in French, at 8 P.M. October 11, 13, 15, and 17 at the Capitol Theater. Tickets are $6 to $25.

To increase your enjoyment of Faust (especially if you are a newcomer to opera), you are invited to attend a free 1-hour symposium October 10 at 8 P.M. at the Capitol Theater. The stage conductor and orchestra director will lecture and give piano interpretations of the musical score. Performers will sing excerpts. Refreshments will be served.
