Opera House Celebrates 6th Anniversary with Opera by Giacomo Puccini.

DAMASCUS, (SANA) -- The Opera House at Dar al-Assad for Culture and Arts is preparing to celebrate its sixth anniversary with three performances of Gianni Schicchi opera by famous Italian composer Giacomo Puccini on May 17-19.

The first performance will take place at 8 PM on May 17th, with the participations of Syrian and Italian performance.

Gianni Schicchi is inspired by Dante's Inferno and tells the story of the title character who impersonated Buoso Donati to steal the latter's fortune after his death.

The opera is directed by Vivian Hewitt and conducted by Nahel al-Halabi.

Giacomo Puccini

The works of Giacomo Puccini (1858-1924) are a mainstay in most major international opera houses.

He composed many operas including Madama Butterfly, and his music is renowned for its strong melodies that appeal to many tastes and their solid, colorful orchestral composition.
