An IP Integrated Messaging Infrastructure from Openwave Systems Inc. (Nasdaq:OPWV), an open software products and services provider, has been selected for next-generation communication and messaging services.

Openwave revealed that Telefonica Moviles Espana, a mobile telecomms company, had chosen its "all-IP" Messaging MX platform to enable Movistar subscribers to access personal content. According to openwave, its Messaging Infrastructure will enable Telefonica Moviles to offer services such as an "always on" e-mail which allows users to access e-mails from their mobile device. Telefonica Moviles is also understood to be mobilising a range of e-mail accounts so that users can use their preferred e-mail account from their phones.

Openwave is also reported to be helping Telefonica Moviles to set up a Movistar interface for easier communications. In addition, high-storage capabilities for the end-user to keep e-mail, MMS, SMS and voicemail messages, along with videos and pictures, will be offered.
