Geography at Aberdeen may be studied as a MA or a BSc and students can chose to focus on Physical Geography (BSc), Human Geography (MA) or combine both. The curriculum has real-world relevance and addresses many of the problems faced by society today. Most Geography students follow the traditional four-year Scottish undergraduate degree with non-Scottish domiciled UK students paying fees for their first three years only, and we offer direct entry into Year 2 for outstanding students. The Complete University Guide ranks Aberdeen in the top third of Geography departments across the UK.
Geography courses are delivered via a mix of lectures, small group and lab classes, and computer-based practical classes, including Geographic Information Systems (GIS). Our field-based teaching brings the subject alive, is fun and helps develop team working skills. Across the degree programme students learn a suite of skills transferable to the job market. Specialist Human Geography teaching includes transport and mobility, rural sustainability and low carbon society and specialist Physical Geography courses include hydrology, glaciology and environmental change (palaeoecology).
