Only when we abolish the monarchy will we be a true democracy.

| THERE is something medieval about the media coverage of the birth of the third-in-line to the throne that I half-expected to see half the citizens of London to be rolling drunk on Gascon wine.

Our public's blind devotion to aristocratic privilege and an unelected head of state is moronic and it is ironic that The White Queen, the dramatisation of the Wars of the Roses, should depict cousinly war, greed and lack of principle at the time when we now know, in advance, the three heads of state for the next century. We can only honestly state we live in a mature democracy when we can abolish the monarchy.
