Onions leave Lidl in a packaging pickle.

Byline: ALEX SHIPMAN reporters@dailyrecord.co.uk

LIDL have been slammed for selling peeled onions - in plastic packaging.

The supermarket have been criticised for excessive wrapping on their "Ready to Cook Naked Onions".

The double pack of peeled veg costs 79p - compared with 55p for four large, unpeeled onions in store.

Customer Angela Fay said: "Just how lazy and stupid are people these days?" Greenpeace UK's Louise Edge said: "Those of us who are physically capable of chopping our own veg should think seriously about the costs and benefits of buying pre-prepared, plasticpacked veg."

Lidl said: "This product is being piloted in a select number of stores on a trial basis only. Following the trial, all customer feedback will be considered."
