Oneonta Tigers Relocating to Norwich, Connecticut.

Byline: Devon Teeple

According to (, the relocation of the Oneonta Tigers has become official.

The Oneonta Tigers were chosen as the team to relocate during a January press conference when the City of Norwich, Connecticut was announced as the new home of the Tigers.0x20 The Tigers name was kept as agreed upon by officials.

The new home of the Connecticut Tigers, Dodd Stadium, comes with a 10-year lease and three five-year club options.

Dodd Stadium was previously the home of the Connecticut Defenders, the Double-A affiliate of the San Francisco Giants, until the Defenders relocated to Richmond Virginia, thus becoming the Richmond Flying Squirrels.

With the Tigers moving, that now leaves an opening in the city of Oneonta.

The Daily Star ( reports that Oneonta was not without a team for long.

The Outlaws, formerly the Saratoga Phillies of the New York Collegiate League located in upstate New York, started to play at Damaschke Field, not too long after the Tigers left for Dodd Stadium.0x200x20 The Outlaws took on the responsibility of covering the final year of the lease.0x20 The lease was between the City of Oneonta and the Oneonta Athletic Corporation.

The NYCL (, which began in 1978 is a wood bat development league, gives college players who have not signed a professional contract a chance to continue to develop their skills before jumping to the next level.

It was not an easy decision for the league to approve the move of the Tigers.0x20 Unfortunately, low attendance, (23,521 in 2009, lowest since 1976), the current demographics of the county and slow down of the local businesses, led to the decision.
