One of world's oldest gorillas turns 55.

Summary: Vila, the third oldest Gorilla in the world, celebrates her 55th birthday.

Vila, the third oldest gorilla in the world, has celebrated her 55th birthday at San Diego Zoo.

Her exact birthday is unknown as she was rescued from the wild, but staff celebrated the milestone over the weekend of October 27-28.

Vila was raised at the zoo's nursery and brought to the safari park in 1975.

Despite being one of the oldest Gorilla's in the world, Vila is in excellent health and senior Zookeeper Peggy Sexton says: "She has a great time here at the park, and she eats everything.

"She's missing a few teeth, as some seniors are, but she loves corn on the cob and doesn't miss a kernel."
