One for the lunatics; COMMENT & DEBATE YOUR LETTERS TO THE NATIONAL NEWSPAPER OF WALES.

* SIR - Dan Dare rides again. I was channel surfing on Friday and I saw an edition of Wales Today - being English I normally watch Points West - and to my surprise there was a proposal for a Spaceport in the Bristol Channel.

Of course this brilliant idea came from the Institute of Directors in London. Why is it that when they have brilliant ideas for dangerous money-making schemes like nuclear power stations or spaceports, it's never in London, but in the West Country. I would suggest that rather than build an artificial island in the Bristol Channel they use Filton. This is an existing airport, though closed, with a long runway, built in the 1950s for the Brabazon aircraft.

Though thy not look again at Boris Johnson's plan for a Thames Airport, all the planning and costing has been done and it would be close to the market for space tourists, or lunatics as there are called.
