One cop killed in Helmand suicide attack

KANDAHAR (PAN): Suicide attacker and a reserve police killed in the southern Helmand province while two civilians wounded in firing at a civilian car by British soldiers in the troubled Kandahar province, an official said on Sunday.

Helmand police chief Brig. Gen. Muhammad Hussain Andiwal told Pajhwok Afghan News a suicide attacker was trying to break into a reserve police base but detonated his explosives after a reserve policeman opened fire on him, in Greshk district of the province late on Saturday night.

He added only the suicide attacker and the reserve policeman that opened fire on him were killed in the overnight explosion that was planed to kill a commander of the reserve police and a tribal elder Abdul Qudoos.

Another firefight between police and guerrillas has also been erupted in Marja district of the same province but no one of the policemen have received casualties the police chief said adding that police ambushed the militants after a tip off late Saturday night.

The Taliban insurgents had escaped after a two hour clash with them where the militants might rush their killed and wounded fellows with them where blood and clothes of the militants were seen on the battlefield, Andiwal explained.

In other news two civilians were wounded after the British soldiers opened fire on a civilian car in the provincial capital city of the neighbouring province of Kandahar early on Sunday morning, a civilian said.

The Taxi driver Abdul Wadood told this news agency the foot patrolling British soldiers opened fire on his car without giving any signal and left his father and his son injured that were rushed to the civil hospital for treatment about 9:00am.

However, the security officials did not give any information about the early morning incident yet.
