On-demand slide printing at the microtome.

Bringing the convenience of on-demand slide printing directly to the microtome, the SlideMate's small footprint (about the size of a toaster) enables it to be integrated at workstations or put on shelves on top of workstations. The unit prints directly onto the slides with chemical-resistant media to ensure print reliability--eliminating handwriting labels and sorting batch printed slides. The device eliminates labels by printing in direct transfer process, and the print is resistant to most chemicals, including Xylene. The slide printer can receive the data to be printed from a variety of sources: LIS, bar-code scanner, or manual input via keyboard. Up to 150 slides are held inside the unit to protect them from dust and the environment. Throughput is typically three to 12 slides per minute, slide dependent. The machine can print on 3" x 1" or 25 mm x 75 mm x 1 mm slides with frosted or colored ends.
