1918 : A Huddersfield soldier was in hospital suffering from trench fever. Pte John Hill, of Fenton Road in Lockwood, was serving with the Machine Gun Corps. He was being cared for in Neath, Glamorganshire in Wales.
1066: Harold Godwinson crowned King of England. He ruled to October 14, 1066, when he was killed at the Battle of Hastings.
1540: King Henry VIII married his fourth wife Anne of Cleves.
1838: Samuel Morse first successfully tested the electrical telegraph.
