On this day.. in 2002; Record readers.

A DAD and his two-year-old daughter paying tribute to heroic policewoman Moira Smith was a poignant reminder of the grief of 9/11 - a year on from the atrocity.

Moira, 38, was the only female NYPD officer killed in the World Trade Centre attack.

She was pictured leading a businessman to safety from the blazing building and ran back in to try to save more. But she died as the Twin Towers collapsed.

Daughter Patricia Mary and widow Jim - an NYPD officer - carried her police badge at a commemoration. He said: "What Moira did was not a one-time thing. That's who Moira was."
