On song for awards.

STUDENTS from Access to Music Birmingham were flying the flag for the West Midlands at Liverpool Sound City.

Their achievements were recognised at two events - the UK Music Student Awards and the Atom Live National Final.

More than 50 students from the Heath Mill Studios centre in Digbeth made their way to Liverpool to take part in the annual music festival and conference.

The UK Music Student Awards was staged at the impressive Echo Arena and highlighted achievement by music students across the country and was compered by Radio 1 DJ Edith Bowman.

Awards were presented by a host of industry professionals including American music mogul Seymour Stein of Sire Records fame - the man who signed Madonna.

Student acts performed throughout the event, including a big scale production of Live & Let Die from the Royal Northern College of Music's Session Musician Orchestra to open the show. Birmingham students HMS Productions (pictured) picked up the award for Best A&R Strategy and Campaign.

Graeme Howell, centre director at Access to Music Birmingham, said: "We are extremely proud of our students' achievements. Very few colleges are able to provide this unique experiences for their students which is what makes Access to Music special."

Places are still available on courses for school leavers and adults, starting this September. For more information visit or call 0800 281842.
