Omani arrested in India for possessing a bullet.
Chennai: The Indian airport police have reportedly picked up a 73-year-old man from Oman for travelling with a 7.62mm rifle bullet inside his razor box. He was picked up while trying to board a flight after receiving treatment at a private hospital in Chennai, the Indian media reported. The reports quoted the man as claiming his son worked in the police department in Oman. "Al Zaid Ali had come to the airport to board an Air India flight to Muscat and was going through the security checks when the machine beeped. The personnel checked his baggage and found the bullet. He said he had come to Chennai for treatment. He is being questioned by the police," the report added. "Though Ali appears to have no bad intention, authorities are crosschecking with Indian diplomats in Oman whether his claims are genuine and whether his son indeed worked in the police force there," the report added. Police are surprised that how he could enter the country without the bullet being detected at the airport. "We don't know if it was the failure of the scanning devices or if he had got the bullet here," the report quoted an officer as saying. Indian police, customs and immigration authorities have beefed up security over the past few days based on inputs by intelligence agencies about gold being smuggled into the country.
