Oman & New Zealand/ Talks Session.

Muscat, Apr 14 (ONA)--- An official session of talks between the Sultanate and New Zealand was held at the Council of Ministers HQs' in Muscat today. The Omani side was chaired by Sayyid Fahd bin Mahmoud al-Said, Deputy Prime Minister for the Council of Ministers whilst the New Zealand side was chaired by Lt.Gen Sir Jerry Mateparae, Governor General and Commander-in-Chief of New Zealand. At the beginning of the meeting, Sayyid Fahd welcomed the chief and his accompanying delegation, wishing them nice stay in the Sultanate. Lt.Gen Sir Jerry Mateparae expressed his delight to visit the Sultanate and meet with His Majesty Sultan Qaboos Bin Said. He commended outcomes of this meeting at the level of the existing friendship relations between the two countries. He highlighted a number of domains that serve cooperation between the two sides. On his turn, Sayyid Fahd affirmed the Sultanate's keenness to extend bridges of cooperation with the friendly countries. He pointed out that the Sultanate's relations with New Zealand embody the joint desire for fruitful cooperation between the two countries. Sayyid Fahd reviewed different aspects of cooperation that enhance future of the existing relations and contribute in developing them. At the end of the talks' session, the two sides agreed on the following steps:- - The importance of the political dialogue on regional and international issues. - Activating different fields of the existing cooperation between the two countries. - Encouraging the available investment opportunities in both countries and setting up an effective partnership in education, health, specialized research, training sectors and cultural aspects. - Availing the field for investment in tourism, agriculture, fisheries and exploration in oil and different mineral sectors, as well as benefiting from the Sultanate's experience in this field. - The importance of exchanging specialized visits among officials in the public and private sectors in both countries and urging them to organize direct meetings to closely get acquainted on fields of the joint cooperation. In a bid to affirm the cooperation and communication path between the two countries, the Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries will pay an official visit to New Zeeland before the end of April 2013 to discuss fields of cooperation in agriculture, fisheries, animal and food security fields, benefit from the New Zeeland experience in maximizing the added value of those sectors and showcase the investment opportunities in those sectors in the Sultanate. The talks' session was attended from the Omani side by the Minister Responsible for Foreign Affairs, the Minister of Higher Education, the Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries, the Minister of Tourism (Head of the Mission of Honour accompanying the guest), the Secretary General of the Council of Ministers, Assistant Secretary General for the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister for the Council of Ministers, OCCI Chairman and the Sultanate's ambassador to Japan and Non-Resident ambassador to New Zeeland whilst it was attended from the New Zealand side by the New Zealand's ambassador to the Sultanate, the Honorary Consul General to New Zealand, the Official Secretary of the Governor General, Deputy Chairman of the Commission at the New Zealand Embassy, the Military Aid from the New Zealand Navy Forces, the Foreign Policy in-Charge at Middle East and Africa Administration at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade and the Political Advisor at the New Zealand Embassy. --- Ends/MS/KH
