Oman, Qatar and Bahrain win.

Ajman Oman, Qatar and Bahrain started off on a winning note on the opening day of the AVC Continental Beach Volleyball Zonal Tournament being held at the Ajman Beach here.

While defending Gulf champions Oman coasted to a 4-0 aggregate win against Iraq, Qatar set aside Kuwait by an identical score and Bahrain toyed with hosts UAE before winning 4-0.

The zonal competition has attracted 12 teams from six countries from West Asia with nations playing each other on a Davis Cup format of best-of-five series before determining the top three teams that will represent the zone in the 2010-12 Continental Beach Volleyball Cup in New Zealand next year.

As many as 41 Asian and Oceania region nations, including two non-IOC members (Macau and Northern Mariana Islands), have registered to participate in the 2010-12 Continental Beach Volleyball Cup. As per the schedule, the top three from each zonal competition will advance to the continental championship to be played in New Zealand from February 16-19, 2012. Indonesia, Thailand and Vietnam have already qualified as sub-zonal winners.

"Our main opponents will be Oman and Bahrain," Qatar player Tarek Abdul Habib said.
