Oman's Sultan Qaboos University and Ministry of Health push medical research.

Muscat: In a bid to strengthen their research partnership, Sultan Qaboos University and Ministry of Health hospitals will now share patients data. The agreement was reached on Saturday at the sixth meeting of the joint committee of university and the ministry held at SQU in the presence of Dr Ali bin Saud Al Bimani, SQU Vice Chancellor and Dr Ali bin Talib Al Hinai, Undersecretary for Planning Affairs at the ministry. Means to strengthen research partnership between the ministry and SQU by involving more medical researchers and postgraduate medical students from SQU were discussed. The committee agreed on exchange and sharing of patient data between SQU Hospital and the Ministry of Health hospitals. It was also decided that a committee to study most expensive medical conditions in Oman would be formed and proper coordination and advance communication between SQU and ministry hospitals would be ensured. The committee also decided that alternative arrangements with mutual understanding would be made in case of temporary closing of medical departments in hospitals for periodic maintenance.
