This fourth and final (?) title in the Demon Trappers series nicely wraps up the loose ends that Oliver dangles in the first three books. Seventeen-year-old demon trapper Riley Blackthorne regains her soul upon the death of her demigod, the fallen angel Ori. Her ex-boyfriend, Simon, realizes that Riley is not the agent of hell he thought her to be. Denver Beck finally reveals his tumultuous, troubled past and confesses his love for Riley. The cruel, archfiend Sartael, supreme enemy of Satan, is defeated once and for all, and Atlanta is no longer the prime battleground for the forces of good and evil.
Although the book concludes with little left for readers to ponder, it is clear to readers that the forces of good and evil will never be reconciled, as will not the relationships between the complex characters Oliver has created. Another installment is certainly a possibility. As with the other titles in the series, readers will be fully engaged in this book, as Oliver is a master storyteller, able to keep several plot threads going full-force while continuing to develop her characters in ways that are complex and layered. The Demon Trappers books will definitely not be shelf-sitters.--Donna Miller.
