Oklahoma rig count drops 2; U.S. down 1.

HOUSTON (JR) Oklahoma's active rig count fell two to 103 for the week ended Friday.

A year earlier, the state had 138 active rigs, according to Baker Hughes.

Before the drop for the week ended Friday, Oklahoma's active rig count had risen two consecutive weeks after falling to 102 in May, the lowest weekly rig count for the state since 101 rigs were active for the week ended March 10, 2017.

The state's highest rig count this year was 140 for the first week of January, Houston oil-field services company Baker Hughes reported.

Oklahoma's highest weekly rig count in 2018 was 148 for the week ended Nov. 9. The state's lowest rig count in 2018 was 117 for the weeks ending Jan. 28 and Feb. 2.

The nationwide active rig count was down one for the week ended Friday to 987, the lowest weekly rig count since it fell to 984 for the week ended March 9, 2018.

A year ago there were 1,046 active rigs, according to Baker Hughes.

Among other major oil- and gas-producing states, Ohio added four rigs to 20, Wyoming gained three rigs to 33, Louisiana was up two to 63 and New Mexico gained one to 103.

Texas lost three rigs to 482, Pennsylvania was down three to 40, Alaska dropped two to seven, and West Virginia dropped one to 20.

California, Colorado, North Dakota and Utah were unchanged.

The U.S. rig count peaked at 4,530 in 1981. It bottomed out in May 2016 at 404.
