Oki, NTT Electronics tie up in optical component business.

TOKYO, Aug. 5 Kyodo

Oki Electric Industry Co. and NTT Electronics Corp. said Tuesday they have agreed to tie up in the optical communication device business and began integrating their production lines the same day.

The two companies began integrating their wafer-process and volume-production technologies for laser diode chips, photo diode chips, modulators and hybrid-functioned devices into NTT Electronics' production lines at its plant in Ibaraki Prefecture, they said.

The two companies said they will enhance their product lineups by jointly developing new optical communication devices and through an original equipment manufacturing (OEM) basis in an effort to reduce development time and redundant investments.

They said they will effectively use their sales channels to strengthen their sales capabilities.

The companies said they will also look into a possible expansion of their alliance, including integrating their assembly processes.
