Oil of the olive.

Olive oil is a quintessential product of Italy--but many will be surprised to hear that some of the best oil available is made right here in the USA. Now in its 77th year of operation, Nick Sciabica & Sons specializes in producing varietal extra virgin oils from seven types of olives grown on 50 acres in Modesto, California. Sciabica's oils ($10 to $30 per 12.7-ounce bottle) are extracted by spinning or "pressing" olives, a slow process that yields premium olive oil bursting with health. Time of harvest determines the distinctive color and flavor of the finished product. For ordering information and recipe ideas, go to or call 800-551-9612.
