Office completed for Columbia House.

The Phillips Janson Group Architects, P.C., a New York-based architectural and interior design firm, announces the completion of new headquarters for Columbia House Company, a joint venture of SONY Music Entertainment, Inc. and The Warner Music Group, Inc., in New York, New York.

Columbia House, the world's largest direct marketer of entertainment products (compact discs, video cassettes, and audio and laser discs), had physically and figuratively outgrown their existing offices. After The Phillips Janson Group participated in a detailed space search and conducted a thorough analysis of prospective buildings, Columbia House chose to relocate to the McGraw Hill Building. The new building would comfortably and efficiently accommodate their 131,000-square-foot program onto three floors.

The Phillips Janson Group worked with a committee, headed by Columbia House President, Richard C. Wolter, to create a design that would reflect the client's corporate philosophy. A predominantly neutral color palate was combined with unusual materials and accents of color.

The project features a three-story interconnecting stair that is encased by two full-height encaustic finished walls. Six video monitors interspersed along the walls play continuous loop music videos. Custom hand-rail details and an abundance of natural light are other features that enhance this dramatic vertical circulation space.
