Off to Afghan war.

DOZENS of soldiers fromthe Royal Dragoon Guards, based at Catterick Garrison, are deploying to Afghanistan this week.

The Royal Dragoon Guards are a North Yorkshire County Regiment and Yorkshire's only heavy cavalry regiment. They will be leaving their base in Alma Lines,Munster Barracks, to join colleagues from the 4th Mechanized Brigade who took over control of British forces in Helmand province recently.

Many of the soldiers will be deploying on Operation Herrick 12 which runs until October. About 6,000 soldiers from the Garrison will be sent on the tour.
