Obopay collaborates with Warid Telecom to launch mobile banking and payment service in Uganda.

Mobile banking and payment solution provider Obopay on Wednesday announced that it has entered into a partnership with Warid Telecom, an Abu Dhabi Group company, to launch the Warid Pesa mobile banking and payment service in Uganda.

The company said that Warid Pesa was launched to meet growing demand for mobile payments in Uganda and provides a prepaid account that enables customers to perform e-money transactions, pay for goods and services as well as settle accounts.

Obopay stated that Warid Pesa is based on its open and interoperable mobile money solutions, a service that enables new channels of distribution for offering financial services and can be used on any device. The graphic interface has been given a simple design so that anyone can access it easily.

Users of Warid Pesa can carry out the following mobile money functions: Person-to-person mobile money transfer; person-to-merchant mobile money transfer; send money to anyone; request money; obtain a mini statement of the account; balance inquiry; change Personal Identity Number (PIN); and Top up prepaid cell phones.

Warid Telecom Uganda is an Integrated Telecom Operator, covering most of Uganda's population, which provides fixed and mobile voice and data using 3G/EDGE technologies and info-entertainment services.
