Obama at Notre Dame.

* If the bishops' protest was really being done to warn us of a danger to maintaining the right relationship with our God and our brothers and sisters, then all this may be attributed to a bona fide pastoral spirit, the Holy Spirit. I personally think all this has been an ego trip for most of them, but I am willing to listen to arguments contrary to my opinion.

If such protestations by the bishops do not make for an ego trip, then I suggest that they polish their rhetoric and make a greater effort to be persuasive to those of us in the pews, eloquently telling us that this is all being done because they are really concerned for the well-being and salvation those who supported the invitation of our president to Notre Dame. Paul had some advice for them and all of us: "If I speak in human and angelic tongues but do not have love, I am a resounding gong or a clashing cymbal."
