Oakland Swamp preserved by GRCA.

Eleven hectares of environmentally-significant land in the Oakland Swamp were recently donated to the Grand River Conservation Authority.

The 27-acre property includes hardwood forest and provincially significant wetland but no structures. The GRCA has accepted four donations in the past three years in the same complex, making a total of 24 hectares (60 acres) of land preserved in the Oakland Swamp.

The Oakland Swamp is one of three large wetland complexes where the GRCA has acquired donated land recently. The other two are the Roseville Swamp and the Beverly Swamp. All three have many land-locked firewood lots.

It is the GRCA's policy to acquire environmentally-sensitive lands

if they become available.
