OZONE LAYER IN TROUBLE -- CAN AN ATLANTA AUTO PLANT HELP?
MONDAY EVENT WILL FOCUS ON ASSEMBLY OF FIRST U.S. CAR TO LEND A HAND
There's good news on the environmental front. You are invited to stop by, possibly with presidential candidates who also are invited, and learn about it firsthand:
 WHEN: 10 a.m. Monday, March 2
WHERE: Atlanta Assembly Plant of Ford Motor Company. Take
I-75 to Exit 82, Henry Food Avenue. Turn left for
100 yards. Park in visitor's lot.
WHO: Former advisor to the president on science matters,
Dr. John P. McTague, vice president, Ford Motor
Company. Also present will be Bob Anderson, manager
of the 2.3-million-square-foot plant, and J.C.
Phillips, chairman of UAW Local 882, and Atlanta
 auto workers.
WHAT: Beginning production of CFC Refrigerant-Free Ford
Taurus by auto workers at the Ford plant. CFCs
(chlorofluorocarbons), used in almost all vehicle
air-conditioning systems, are a known contributor
to the depletion of atmospheric ozone. Ozone helps
block harmful ultraviolet rays from reaching the
ground. Ford becomes the first U.S. producer of
CFC-Free cars. (Mercedes is now building CFC-free
 cars.)
The ozone topic is a hot-button item snaring everyone's interest. I hope you can be present to pick up this environmental story at an Atlanta auto plant...and do so, possibly with some other distinguished visitors joining in on the occasion.
CONTACT: Tom Boyle, Ford's Southeast public affairs manager,
 404-577-2277.
