OYSTER CREEK RETURNS TO SERVICE

 OYSTER CREEK RETURNS TO SERVICE
FORKED RIVER, N.J., May 7 /PRNewswire/ -- The Oyster Creek Nuclear

Generating Station resumed generating electricity at 3:16 a.m. today.
The reactor shut down automatically at about 1:30 p.m. on Sunday when soot and smoke from a large brush fire interrupted normal off-site electrical power for a short time.
An alert was declared at 2:34 p.m. Sunday afternoon when off-site power was lost and the plant's two emergency diesel generators automatically started as designed to provide electrical power to the plant.
The alert, which was declared as a precautionary measure, was de-escalated to an unusual event 5:05 a.m. Monday. The unusual event was terminated at 6:35 a.m.
The reactor remained shut down Monday and Tuesday until plant managers determined that plant equipment was ready to be restarted. Plant operators took advantage of the shut-down to perform minor maintenance on plant systems that cannot be worked on when the plant is running.
None of the station's facilities were affected by the fire.
Federal, state and local officials have been notified.
