 OYSTER CREEK BACK ON LINE
FORKED RIVER, N.J., Aug. 26 /PRNewswire/ -- The Oyster Creek Nuclear

Generating Station went back on line, producing electricity at 6:12 a.m. today, after being shut down since Saturday afternoon.
The plant is currently operating at 28 percent power. The reactor automatically shut down and an Unusual Event was declared on Saturday afternoon after water levels in the reactor became lower than allowable for operation. An Unusual Event is the lowest emergency classification that can be declared in the nuclear power industry.
Water levels in the reactor dropped when instrumentation incorrectly showed that steam flow from the reactor had stopped. This false indication caused the shut-off of water that feeds back into the reactor.
A faulty component in the steam flow indicator which caused the incorrect indication was replaced.
Once the water level started to drop shortly before 1 p.m., the reactor automatically shut down. Shortly after the plant shut down, instrumentation showed water levels lower still and an Unusual Event was declared at 1:15 p.m. as required by procedures.
Immediately after the shutdown, water levels were brought back to normal. The Unusual Event was terminated at 2:52 p.m. Saturday.
