OWNER ANNOUNCES OPENING OF TULSA MARRIOTT SOUTHERN HILLS

TULSA, Okla., Sept. 30 /PRNewswire/ - Phil Ruffin, president and chairman of the Wichita-based Ruffin Companies, announced today that its Tulsa Sheraton Kensington franchise has been converted to a Marriott effective immediately. The hotel's name has been changed to the Tulsa Marriott Southern Hills.
The conversion to a Marriott franchise completes a key phase in the Ruffin Companies' restructuring of the mixed-use Kensington development located at 71st & Lewis. The former Kensington Galleria retail center is being transformed into the Kensington Business Centre. It will accommodate United Video and its 800 employees as well as Tulsa National Bank and other prominent companies not yet disclosed.
The south Tulsa hotel is the 254th full-service Marriott in the world. Its 40,000 square feet of meeting space qualifies it as the 17th largest convention hotel in the Marriott System and Tulsa's largest corporate meeting facility.
Extensive renovation of meeting facilities, 383 guest rooms, hospitality suites and restaurants will begin immediately and continue through 1994. Dollar value for the capital improvements is not yet available.
The hotel's existing 325-member staff will be retained. According to Charlie Roberts, general manager of the Tulsa Marriott Southern Hills, the employees are eager to be associated with the Marriott System -- an organization they know to be synonymous with first-class services for guests and quality training for staff members.
BJ Berntsen, senior vice president of Marriott Hotels & Resorts Franchise Division, stated, "The Marriott Corporation is committed to providing high-quality lodging, meeting space and services to its guests. Marriott Corp. seeks franchise operators who share that commitment to excellence. The Ruffin Hotel Group is currently operating six other Marriott properties in the United States. They've got an outstanding record of success. We are excited to continue our relationship with Phil Ruffin in Tulsa, Okla."
Marriott Corp. (NYSE: MHS), based in Bethesda, Md., is one of the nation's leading hotel operators.
