OWENS-CORNING NAMES D.J. (DEREK) HOLDEN VICE PRESIDENT, GOVERNMENT/INDUSTRY RELATIONS AND BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT

 TOLEDO, Ohio, Aug. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Owens-Corning (NYSE: OCF) today named D.J. (Derek) Holden to the new corporate position of vice president, Government/Industry Relations and Business Development, based in Washington.
 In his new position, Holden will serve as Owens-Corning's liaison to various U.S., Canadian and European government agencies and departments, with the oversight of legislative, regulatory and business development issues. He also will act as Owens-Corning's primary contact to other industry associations.
 Holden is currently president and chief executive officer of Fiberglas Canada, Inc., Owens-Corning's wholly owned Canadian subsidiary. He has held that position since November 1990.
 "With his diverse and distinguished career as an engineer, manager and executive, Derek Holden is uniquely qualified to serve as Owens- Corning's ambassador to the U.S., Canada, Europe and our other global markets," said Glen H. Hiner, chairman and chief executive officer of Owens-Corning. "By maintaining relationships with government agencies and departments around the world, he will play a central role as we continue to pursue our agenda of profitable global growth."
 Holden joined Fiberglas Canada in 1966 as a mechanical engineer. He moved quickly through the engineering ranks, becoming a design engineer in 1967, senior project engineer in 1969 and mechanical design supervisor in 1970.
 He was named manager of product and process development for Fiberglas Canada in 1973 and manager of research and insulation development in 1976. Holden became group vice president for textiles, reinforcements and chemicals in April of 1987, and executive vice president in August 1990.
 Holden is a graduate of the Liverpool (England) College of Engineering. He is chartered as an engineer in Great Britain and is a member of the Association of Professional Engineers of Ontario (Canada).
 John Vermuelen has been named vice president/general manager of Owens-Corning Canada and vice president, home building marketing sales. This position will replace Holden's prior assignment in Canada.
