 OWENS & MINOR, INC. ANNOUNCES ORGANIZATION CHANGES
 RICHMOND, Va., Oct. 30 /PRNewswire/ -- Owens & Minor (NYSE: OMI) is


pleased to announced the following organization changes:
 Henry A. Berling, currently Senior Vice President of Sales and Distribution, will become Senior Vice President of Sales & Marketing effective Jan. 1, 1993. Mr. Berling's career with Owens & Minor, Inc. began in 1966, and he has served in a number of capacities in both sales and operations during his 26 years with the Company. This change will capitalize on Mr. Berling's experience and strong relationship with our customers and suppliers.
 Craig R. Smith, will be promoted to the newly created position of Senior Vice President, Distribution, effective Jan. 1, 1993. He joined Owens & Minor in 1989 when the Company purchased National Healthcare, Inc. as Division Vice president for the Los Angeles division and was promoted to Group Vice President, Western Region in 1991. His career in the healthcare industry spans 18 years, including positions with Chesborough-Ponds, Codman and Shurtleff (a division of Johnson & Johnson), Kimberly-Clark and Hospital Service and Supply. Mr. Smith will assume overall responsibility for the Company's 29 distribution centers and will move to Richmond.
 J. Maria Reid, formerly Vice President, Organization Development, has been promoted to Senior Vice President, Organization Development, effective Jan. 1, 1993. The Organization Development function encompasses human resources and training and development. At the time Ms. Reid joined Owens & Minor in March 1991, she had her own consulting practice working with a variety of firms, including Owens & Minor. Prior to that, she served as Vice President Human Resources, for Richfood, Inc., a wholesale food distributor headquartered in Richmond, Va.
 Frederick R. Ricker, Vice President, Logistics, will become Vice President, Support Services, effective Jan. 1, 1993. Mr. Ricker, who joined the Company in 1989, has 18 years' experience in logistics technology with such companies as IBM and W.W. Grainger. The new assignment will focus all of his time and efforts on providing consulting services to customers, especially in the inventory and materials flow areas. Also, Mr. Ricker will continue to work with the Company's manufacturing suppliers to enhance the use of Electronic Data Interchange (EDI).
 Glenn G. Papit is joining Owens & Minor Nov. 1, 1992 as Director, National Accounts. Mr. Papit has nine years' service in the healthcare industry, in sales and sales training with Johnson & Johnson (J&J), as well as a former assignment with Owens & Minor as Sales Manager/Government Relations. While at J&J, he was three times the recipient of the Sales Achievement Award and also earned J&J's Ring Club Award. After a number of years in the ministry, Mr. Papit returns to Owens & Minor and his career in the health care industry.
 Owens & Minor , Inc., is a wholesale distributor of medical and surgical supplies, pharmaceuticals and other related products to hospitals and alternate medical care facilities. The Company has 29 distribution centers serving 39 states and the District of Columbia.
